HARTFORD, Conn — Hartford police said they arrested the driver in a deadly pedestrian crash from 2023 Saturday after the State's Attorney's office extradited him from Arizona to Connecticut.

Kenneth Steele, 39, of Hartford, is charged with evading responsibility involving death.

Police said the crash happened on Oct. 5, 2023 in the area of Hamilton Street involving a car that hit a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, who police identified as Omar Espinal, 34, of Hartford, died from his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Steele, the driver, took off from the scene before officers arrived, police said.

The Hartford Police Crime Scene Division obtained a felony arrest warrant for Steele during an "extensive investigation."

He was held on a $250,000 bond following his arrest, police said.
