COLUMBIA, Mo. -- A Stephens College student was fatally shot early Saturday in downtown Columbia.

The Columbia police department reports that Misael Covarrubias, 23, from Fellsmere, Florida, became involved in an argument with several others near Ninth Street and East Broadway early Saturday.

Covarrubias proceeded to pull out a gun and open fire, missing his target and shooting three uninvolved bystanders. One of the victims, Aiyanna Williams, a student at Stephens College in Columbia, was rushed to University Hospital where she was later declared deceased. The other two victims' names have not been released.

Covarrubias was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action, and one count unlawful use of a weapon.
