We’re tracking an active coastal setup this week — not because of a direct hit from a tropical storm, but because of the side effects of two powerful systems offshore: Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda.
Both storms will stay out to sea. But that doesn’t mean we’re off the hook.
Humberto is already sending long-period swells toward our beaches — and Imelda, despite turning east, will soon stack more powerful waves onto the mix. Combine that with strong high pressure from the north, and Eastern North Carolina faces a prolonged stretch of strong northeast winds, dangerous surf, and coastal flooding — especially Tuesday through Thursday.
Beach impacts: The Outer Banks, especially Hatteras and Ocracoke face 1 to 2 feet of storm-driven water on the ocean side. Expect dune erosion,
