LINCOLN, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A 3-year-old boy fatally shot a relative Monday morning after getting hold of a gun, according to Lincoln Police Chief Scott Bonner.

The shooting happened around 7 a.m. on Taryn Trace. Bonner said the child “got hold of a gun” before the weapon discharged.

Police said the shooting appears accidental. Chief Bonner says they are working to speak with the child to better understand what happened.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name or the child’s relationship to that person.
