Schools across Nunavut wove lessons about truth and reconciliation into their classrooms and assemblies ahead of Sept. 30.

In Arviat on Sept. 22, students at John Arnalukjuak High School took part in a wide range of arts and crafts to honour Inuit culture. A station devoted to keeping Inuktitut alive was put up where students wrote reasons why they matter, and why ever child matters. These heartfelt words were written in Inuktitut on orange shirts. Students also worked on an 'Every Child Matters' sign for the school, and learned traditional arts, such as beading, Inuit drawing and carving. Elders told stories, an Orange shirt mural was signed by students in the theatre, students sang Inuit music during karaoke and awards were given out for cultural skills.
