CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Category 1 Hurricane Imelda is a bit stronger this morning with winds near 75 miles per hour. The storm is now drifting northeast away from Florida and the Bahamas and will slowly strengthen over the next couple of days, likely becoming a Category 2 hurricane as it moves by Bermuda midweek.

On its current track, the tropical cyclone will remain offshore, sparing the Carolinas from a direct hit. Even so, we’ll still deal with lots of clouds along with a cool breeze and off-and-on showers again today. Highs today will inch up in the lower 70s.

As Imelda continues to pull away, the rain will come to an end late today and skies will gradually clear overnight with lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
