OGDENSBURG, New York (WWNY) - Ogdensburg lawmakers are getting a raise, and department heads don’t necessarily have to live in the city. Those are a couple of big changes under the recently revised city charter.

The city council approved the changes earlier this month.

“We had a very dedicated group that got together to make these recommendations, and I agreed with 90 percent of them,” said Jennifer Stevenson, city councillor.

Of the changes made, two drew plenty of discussion among city lawmakers. One was councillor compensation. The other is where department heads can live.

Under the new changes, all department heads do not need to live in the city to hold their position, as long as they are approved by the council with a supermajority vote. Mayor Mike Tooley says the goal is to broa
