QUANTICO, Va. (Gray News) – At a meeting with top military officials Tuesday in Virginia, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he wants everyone in the military to be in good physical shape.

“It’s tiring to look out at combat formations, or really any formation, and see fat troops. Likewise, it’s completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon. And leading commands around the country and the world. It’s a bad look. It is bad, and it’s not who we are,” he said.

He said moving forward, military members will need to meet height and weight standards and pass a physical fitness test.

Hegseth has frequently said U.S. troops should adhere to new fitness requirements as part of a movement to boost the military’s “warrior ethos.”
