PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced Tuesday that it is conducting a case review of renowned journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson.
The review comes from the suggestion of the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office after a request from Thompson's widow, Anita Thompson.
The "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" writer died on Feb. 20, 2025, at his home in Woody Creek, Colorado - about 8 miles northwest of Aspen - from a suspected gunshot wound to the head. The investigation originally concluded his death was a suicide.
Pitkin County Sheriff Michael Buglione said there is no new evidence suggesting foul play, but his office "is committed to answering any lingering questions surrounding the case."
