ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A teenager is facing legal consequences after a police officer allegedly caught him speeding on I-285 in DeKalb County.

On Monday night, a Dunwoody officer pulled the 15-year-old over after clocking him going 111 mph. According to the police department, the boy said he “saw open roadway and wanted to see how fast his car could go.”

The teen had a driver’s permit, but he was the only one inside the car, police said. By law, those with a permit can only drive when someone at least 21 years old with a license is sitting in the front seat.

The teenager’s case will be heard in DeKalb County Juvenile Court. The boy’s mother was also cited for permitting an unauthorized minor to drive.
