UNION COUNTY, N.C. — More than 22 families gathered on Tuesday to honor loved ones killed in homicides, many of them unsolved, during Union County's first observance of the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.
Families shared stories and spoke the names of victims during the event at the Union County Sheriff's Office, followed by a candlelight vigil and balloon release.
"Feels like guilt because I don't want him to think that I forgot about him. So, to be honest, I just wanted to come up here and say his name," one attendee said.
Union County District Attorney Trey Robison told families his office is working with law enforcement to solve their cases.
