A community feast in Sanikiluaq had more than 150 attendees on Sept. 19 at the community's high school as part of the Ubluriak Society's suicide awareness strategy, which will include giving youth air time on the local radio station.
Seal, fish, mussels, and caribou soup were given out by the non-profit organization to nearly the entire community on the Friday evening. The event encouraged community building in the face of mental health challenges.
"When we are in pain, or when we are facing trouble, we should look for somebody to talk to," said Isaac Mensah, director of operations at the Ubluriak Society.
