A man has tragically lost his life following a three-vehicle crash involving a car, a van and a HGV on the A66 . The incident occurred shortly after 10.30am on Tuesday, September 30, near Bowes, in County Durham

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the 86-year-old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, Durham Constabulary has confirmed. His family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.

The van driver was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries, while the HGV driver was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, reports Chronicle Live .
