BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The Louisiana National Guard (LANG) said it is preparing for a possible mission to provide up to 1,000 Guardsmen to assist law enforcement across the state.
The plan is still pending federal approval under Title 32 funding. This comes after Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry asked the Secretary of War to activate LANG to combat crime across the state.
If approved, Guardsmen will work with law enforcement in big cities. Each city will get a plan that fits its specific needs. A news release stated that this effort will boost security. It will also help the Guard respond quickly to hurricanes and other state emergencies.
