PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — The Paradise Valley Unified School District Governing Board voted unanimously Tuesday to place the district's superintendent on paid leave.
Todd Cummings, who started with the district in July, was placed on leave after the school board held a closed-door meeting to receive legal advice regarding the superintendent's employment contract. A reason for placing Cummings on leave was not publicly stated during Tuesday's meeting.
Dan Courson, an assistant superintendent for the district, was appointed to serve as acting superintendent for the time being.
Cummings' employment agreement with PVUSD was intended to last until June 2027 and the contract paid him an annual base salary of $230,000.
