ABERDEEN, N.C. (WNCN) — A Moore County mother was arrested after she was caught on video strangling her young son last week, officers said Monday.

The incident was reported Thursday as child abuse at a home near John McQueen Road in Aberdeen, according to an Aberdeen Police Department news release.

When Aberdeen officers arrived, they spoke with a neighbor who was standing beside a "visibly upset" little boy, the release said.

The child told police that his mother hit him in the head at least twice and strangled him, officers said.

A warrant said the mother "grabbed the victim with both hands around his throat and held him down in chair."

Officers at the scene investigated the matter.
