FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) is warning of a phone scam.

According to the department, it has been made aware of recent calls from its 260-427-1201 phone line, claiming to be a sergeant.

The department says it will not contact you to purchase gift cards to pay a fine or about missed jury duty.

To check if a phone call from the department is a scam, you are asked to contact the FWPD non-emergency number at 260-427-1222.
