Hedgesville High School alumnus Chase DeLauter had the rare opportunity to make his Major League Baseball debut while playing in a postseason game. A day after being called up to the Cleveland Guardians’ AL Wild Card round roster, DeLauter was in the starting lineup and batted seventh as the Guardians defeated the Tigers, 6-1. The decisive game of the Wild Card series is set for Thursday.
DeLauter is just the sixth player to make his big league debut in a playoff game. He went 0-for-2 with a walk. DeLauter collected an outfield assist while throwing a runner out at third base in the fourth inning.
DeLauter graduated from Hedgesville in 2019 after leading the Eagles to the Class AAA state tournament. He played three seasons at James Madison before being selected 16th overall in the 2022 M
