FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office hosted an active shooter training at Wilson High School on Wednesday.
The training was a realistic reenactment of an active shooter entering the building and firing several shots.
“A lot of time and effort into this to make it as realistic as possible,” Sheriff Joe Hamilton said.
Officers and deputies performed several different tactics in response to catch the shooter.
“We look at the law-enforcement side as number one. Our response or response time, and once on scene, using the proper tactics to engage a threat and then take care of a threat,” Hamilton said.
Each year, the Sheriff's Office goes to a different Lauderdale County school to practice.
