ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Some places on the Gulf Coast are already feeling the effects of the government shutdown.
At Johnson Beach, normally a public coastal area, visitors are still being allowed in. With the federal government shutdown, park officials warn that this beach could be closed in the very near future.
Because it's a part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Johnson Beach falls under the National Park Service, one of the first places people tend to notice the impact of a shutdown.
Just down the road, Naval Air Station Pensacola is already closed down to public visitation. All public access points, including the National Naval Aviation Museum, are shut down. Base operations continue as this is a military installation and considered essential.
