CONNECTICUT, USA — One of Connecticut's several new laws that took effect Wednesday will make it more difficult for companies to tow cars and make it easier for drivers to get their cars back if they end up on a lot.

After receiving complaints about towing practices across the state, the Department of Motor Vehicles created a consumer bill of rights for nonconsensual tows. With the new laws, companies will have to go through several steps before towing cars.

It can be expensive and difficult for drivers to get their towed cars back.

“Over the years, people have voiced concerns that they felt as if the consumers weren’t getting enough protection,” DMV Commissioner Anthony Guerrera said.
