Police appeared to be seen detaining two men on a residential street that was cordoned off by armed officers yards away from the scene of the synagogue attack in north Manchester.

Two people have died with three others in a serious condition after a car was driven at pedestrians and a person was stabbed in the incident outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, on Middleton Road in Crumpsall.

Police said the suspect was also confirmed dead after shots were fired by armed police at 9.38am. He was shot 'due to safety issues surround suspicious items on his person'.
