MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — Mesa County Valley School District 51 (D51) and Community Hospital announced on Thursday that all four comprehensive high schools in the district —Central, Fruita Monument, Grand Junction, and Palisade — have been awarded the First Team Safe Sports School Award by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).

Only 10 other high schools in Colorado have received the distinction.

The Safe Sports School Award recognizes secondary schools that excel in promoting the well-being of student-athletes through emergency preparedness, injury prevention, safe facilities and education. Additionally, "First Team" status is given to schools that meet the highest level of NATA's safety standards.
