MASON CITY, Iowa.- The Iowa Food System Coalition is holding a virtual town hall at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2.
Chris Schwartz, executive director of the Coalition says the goal is to put school nutrition programs, food banks and small town grocery stores in touch with the general public to share how cuts to programs like SNAP and Local Foods to School is affecting them.
"Very little of the food that we actually eat in Iowa, despite being a very agricultural state is actually grown here and that is a huge vulnerability for our security and our safety," Schwartz said.
The event is set to run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Those interested in attending can sign up on the coalition website.
