SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has fined 50 Century, LLC, $48,000 for failing to comply with state cleanup regulations at a contaminated property in Springfield.

In 1987, officials were notified of a release of volatile organic compounds into the soil and groundwater. Preliminary assessment work began under previous ownership, but when 50 Century purchased the property in 2017, the responsibility to complete cleanup measures transferred with the sale.
