MADISON (WKOW) -- Republican lawmakers in Wisconsin have proposed a bill to ban hemp-derived THC products, arguing the state needs to close what they describe as a "dangerous loophole."

The bill has sparked debate over whether regulation, rather than an outright ban, might be a better solution. State Rep. Lindee Brill is leading the charge to ban intoxicating hemp products such as drinks, oils and gummies.

"When I realized that what we were dealing with was really because of a loophole, I realized this is our ... not necessarily our chance to make it illegal right now, but definitely to push the process of doing this correctly versus creating an industry through an unintended loophole," Brill said.
