Connecticut Water has issued a conservation request for customers in several southern Connecticut towns due to moderate drought .

The request applies to customers in Clinton, Madison, Guilford, Old Saybrook, Westbrook and Plymouth, according to the announcement on Connecticut Water's website .

"Using water wisely will ensure available supply for public health and fire protection. This request is until further notice. We will continue to update customers on drought status," the company states in the website announcement.

This part of the state is in a moderate drought status, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor .

The rest of the state is labeled as abnormally dry.
