VILLAGE OF MCFARLAND, Wis. (WKOW) — A jury recently ruled that the Village of McFarland is entitled to more than $1.6 million from Hanover Insurance Company related to a sinkhole collapse at the McFarland Public Safety Center in 2023.

This decision, rendered on Sept. 24 by a 12-person jury, requires Hanover to cover the full repair costs related to the collapse.

The village had filed a lawsuit against Hanover, claiming the company did not honor its insurance policy by refusing to pay the full amount of approximately $1.68 million for remediation costs. Hanover initially paid just over $700,000, despite policy provisions covering sinkhole collapse with a limit of more than $18 million, according to a press release.
