There are a lot of people who have good reason to run or walk tomorrow.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives, but mortality from the disease has decreased by about 47 per cent since the late 1980’s.

The CIBC Run for the Cure takes place across Canada tomorrow. It’s the country’s largest single-day, volunteer-led event of the breast cancer cause.

People will gather at 8:00 am at the Bowring Park Bungalow for a few remarks and presentations followed by a warmup, and then everyone gets moving.

Run director Steffani Kalthunga says the event has raised $507-million for research and support programs since 1992. The money supports everything from prevention and diagnosis to research and treatment.
