BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was pulled from Lake Chapin after being reported missing Saturday afternoon, according to the Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Department.

Officers first responded to reports of a missing person around 4 p.m. near S. Main Street at Lake Chapin.

Several people were swimming near the bridge pylons located in the lake when one swimmer struggled and went underwater, police said. Other swimmers and boaters nearby tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.

Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Micah Harris from Xenia, Ohio, who was a student at Andrews University. His body was later recovered by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.

The incident remains under investigation.
