CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was killed in a shooting near an elementary school in east Charlotte on Monday.

The shooting happened on Barrington Drive near Devonshire Elementary, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police confirmed the incident did not happen on school property.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Medic.

Devonshire Elementary was placed on lockdown from 4:20 p.m. to 4:51 p.m. because of the investigation, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokesperson. There were 11 students on campus at the time of the lockdown.

No students or staff members were hurt in the incident, according to CMS.

It's not known if any suspects were arrested.
