CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - One person is dead near an elementary school in east Charlotte on Monday evening, according to police.

Charlotte police said on Monday, Oct. 6, around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to Barrington Drive near The Plaza and Devonshire Elementary to investigate a homicide.

Officials said that the incident did not occur on school property.

Medic said they responded to that area for a reported gunshot wound and said the person was dead.

It is unclear at the time of this writing what led up to the incident or how many people were involved.
