EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – After helping more than 16,000 Spartans in need last year, the Michigan State University Food Bank & Basic Needs Program is fighting food insecurity with a new location and 21st century services.

While many people think college students to be well off because they might be paying a pretty penny for tuition, workers with the MSU Food Bank say that's not always the case. They say 59% of college students experience basic needs insecurity.

Back in the 90s, the food pantry at MSU was the first in the country run by college students, for college students—and it’s come a long way. The MSU Student Union just got a tasty and timely addition called Spartan Shelf-Union.
