HARTFORD, Conn. — The state Department of Transportation Monday urged drivers who are involved in accidents to remain inside their vehicles after multiple recent collisions on Connecticut highways.
"It may feel counterintuitive if you get a flat tire, if you're in a fender bender to stay in your car, but that is the safest place for you to be,” said CTDOT spokesperson Josh Morgan.
Morgan said exiting a vehicle on the highway shoulder is very risky, especially given the increase in distracted driving.
On Saturday, a man died after he was hit by a car on Interstate 91 in Windsor. State police said he was standing in the left shoulder after a previous crash before he went into the travel lane and was hit.
