Edinburgh's North Bridge has been closed off as fire crews respond to an "ongoing incident". ‌

Firefighters raced to the area in the city centre at 8.10am on Tuesday. The nature of the incident is currently unknown. ‌

Pedestrians and motorists have been urged to take alternative routes while the bridge has been shut off. ‌

One passerby, 50, told Edinburgh Live : "Firefighters were blocking both ends of the bridge - there was a cordon going up. The tall ladder appliance was at the Princes Street end and others at the top.

"It was chaos at that time of the morning with drivers turning around to try other routes . It wasn't immediately clear what was going on but the workies from the bridge project had left the site and were congregated down near Princ
