Edinburgh's North Bridge has been closed off by fire crews this morning as they deal with an ongoing incident.

Firefighters closed off both ends of the busy road at around 8.10am on Tuesday, October 7. The exact nature of the incident is currently not known and access has been restricted for motorists and pedestrians.

Ongoing restoration works have also believed to have been halted while emergency services attend.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) have been approached for comment.

One passerby, 50, said: "Firefighters were blocking both ends of the bridge - there was a cordon going up.

"The tall ladder appliance was at the Princes Street end and others at the top.

"It was chaos at that time of the morning with drivers turning around to try other routes.
