GLASTONBURY, Conn. —

Plans are finalized to overhaul the historic William H. Putnam Bridge that connects Glastonbury and Wethersfield. The state says the bridge needs structural improvements and repairs. The last rehabilitation project was in 2013, and officials say it’s now time for another one.

"We inspect the bridges every two years,” said Josh Morgan, spokesperson for the Connecticut DOT. “That helps us keep an eye on the conditions of the bridge surface itself, supports, the girders every component of the bridge.”

Putnam bridge rehabilitation has been a multi-year step project. Morgan says over the years, the State Department of Transportation noticed deterioration on supports, joints, and other components of the structure, and upgrades are now planned for next year.
