BESSEMER, Ala. —

Homewood, is set to undergo significant changes with the introduction of a diverging diamond interchange at Lakeshore and Interstate 65, a project that has been in discussion for over a decade and was approved in April.

According to the initial project plan from the City of Homewood, the Alabama Department of Transportation will cover 80% of the costs for the $23 million, while Homewood will contribute 20%. Since the planning phase, those numbers have changed slightly. Homewood City Council President Walter Jones says they'll also receive funding from the Birmingham Metropolitan Planning Organization, and they're waiting for the Jefferson County Commission to approve $1 million in funding for the project.
