KENT, Ohio (WOIO) - A former Kent police officer was killed in combat while fighting to defend Ukraine.
Kent police said Max Arnett was “disturbed by what was going on in Ukraine and was motivated to go over there and assist them in defending their country.”
Arnett left for Ukraine in March and was killed on Aug. 23.
“To say we are heartbroken and in disbelief of his passing is an understatement. We would like to take this time to recognize the sacrifice Max made for what he believed in,” posted Kent police on Facebook.
Arnett was a member of the Kent Police Department for about a year.
