FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Google is requesting state approval to operate 179 emergency diesel generators at its Fort Wayne data center.
The tech giant, through its subsidiary Hatchworks LLC, filed the request with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to add emergency diesel-fired generators and cooling towers to its data center project.
Expansion builds on previous approvals
Google’s plan includes 34 main diesel generators that were built in 2024, with an additional 140 generators built in 2025.
The company also plans to operate five smaller generators classified as “insignificant” by state law.
All told, the 179 diesel generators could generate up to 527.52 megawatts.
