SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- You may have noticed the full moon was brighter and bigger the past few nights.

This full moon is known as the Harvest Moon. According to the Farmer's Almanac, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox.

It rises around the same time for several nights, providing extra evening light. Historically, this helped farmers get harvest done before fall frosts.

This Harvest Moon is the first of three Supermoons this year. A Supermoon happens when the moon is closer to Earth, making it appear larger and brighter.
