SALT LAKE CITY — A fire was burning on the West Rim of Zion National Park in Washington County on Wednesday.

On Wednesday night, officials reported that the Blue Creek Fire had burned 100 acres and is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike.

According to the National Park Service, wildland firefighters and a type-3 helicopter are attacking the flames. However, Utah Fire Info reported that firefighters are having a difficult time accessing the flames due to challenging terrain.

The National Park Service said visitors should expect temporary closures, including Lava Point Road as well as portions of the West Rim Trail.

The West Rim Trail is closed between Scout Lookout and Lava Point.
