One man is dead after a reported shooting in northern Buncombe County the evening of Oct. 8, the sheriff's office announced after midnight.

Buncombe County Sheriff's Office patrol deputies responded to Kreston Drive, near the Madison County line, at about 6 p.m. for a reported gunshot wound, the news release said.

Deputies found William Jennings Bryan Clay III, 55, dead at the scene. The sheriff's office identified Clay III as a resident of Kreston Drive.

The Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Investigation Team responded to the address Oct. 9, and the investigation is ongoing. Limited details have been released, but the sheriff's office believes this to be an isolated incident and there's no continued threat to the community.
