KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Homeowners in Hyde Park are having their water mains replaced, but it's not going exactly how they had hoped.

New meters are being moved from in and around the home, to in their yard.

One woman found out about the change when a crew started digging in her neighbors front yard.

Shelby Talley was floored when she saw KC Water construction crews outside her home.

“We just didn't really know that this was happening,” she said. “We want clean water. We want better water, and we appreciate that. It's just this part of the project was really not something that was communicated and it's intrusive.”

The project is aimed at replacing Kansas City’s oldest water mains with new ones, hoping to prevent emergency breaks and slowly modernize the infrastructure.
