Chittenden County will get a special prosecutor to focus on court backlogs and repeat offenders, Gov. Phil Scott announced Friday, the first follow-up on commitments from the state to help address crime and safety concerns in Burlington.

The special prosecutor will focus on "service-resistant" people whose cases have stalled, the governor said in a press release. Initially, the prosecutor will look to target people who have numerous open court cases and are awaiting trial. The effort will home in on people who have at least five open cases.
