STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Route 113 has reopened in Stratford months after a sinkhole temporarily shut town the roadway.
Officials said an emergency declaration allowed the Connecticut Department of Transportation to immediately mobilize contractors and begin repairs, leading to what would normally be a year-long project taking just around three months.
"This project is ahead of schedule and we're really happy about it," said Stratford Mayor Laura Hoydick. "Ironically, we're going to get this road open before a potential nor'easter and so we have evacuation routes for Lordship, and Lordship will be really, really happy about that."
Officials said the initial sink hole was caused by the failure of drainage pipes underneath the roadway.
