GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -A sea of purple filled Gainesville this morning, not just for fun, but to raise money to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Over 100 people came together to cheer and walk for the cause. The event, which began in 1989, has become a tradition, a space for people to learn, support one another, and raise money to fight the disease.

Christina Evey, chair of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, said that this event was personal.
“It’s hard seeing my mom, who loves her sister so much, not even being recognized by her,” she said.
Evey has felt the impact of Alzheimer’s within her own family and is motivated to teach others about the disease through this walk.
