EAST WINDSOR, Conn. (WFSB) - A vehicle struck a tree tonight at the intersection of Melrose Road and North Road leaving the driver seriously injured according to local authorities.

Broad Brook Fire Department and Warehouse Point Fire Department responded to the scene.

Firefighters extracted one person from the vehicle while the other was able to get out of the vehicle on their own.

Life Star transported the driver to a Hartford-area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

An ambulance transported the passenger, who was walking around the scene.

Metro Traffic Services is investigating the crash. Melrose Road between Yosky and North roads will be shut down for an extended period of time.
