MOORHEAD — The murder trial of a Moorhead woman accused of murder in the death of a 3-year-old boy in her care last year has been delayed after defense attorneys expressed concerns about new discovery and the availability of a witness.
Shiann Erickson's trial was set to begin on Oct. 27, but Judge Tammy Merkins postponed it Tuesday after Erickson's attorneys Dierra Diegel and Richard Sand laid out the challenges. Merkins warned the delay would likely be "lengthy" because of the planned two-week duration of the trial and full schedules for both herself and county prosecutor Pamela Foss. The following day, the trial was officially rescheduled to begin May 11, 2026.
One of the witnesses the defense intends to call in the case is about to give birth, defense attorneys said, and her availab
