EAST PUTNAM, Conn. (WFSB) - A driver struck a fallen tree on Route 44, prompting an hour-long response from emergency crews to clear the roadway.

The East Putnam Fire Department responded to the crash at 11:17 p.m. Sunday in the area of 449 Providence Pike, also known as Route 44.

The incident occurred as severe weather conditions brought down trees across the region.

The vehicle’s occupant was able to exit the car on their own and was evaluated by Putnam EMS at the scene.

After the medical assessment, the driver signed a refusal for further treatment, indicating no serious injuries were sustained in the crash.

Fire department crews worked for approximately one hour to remove the fallen tree from the roadway and restore normal traffic flow.
